The Scottish Terrier, better known as the Scottie, is a great family dog that will do well in an apartment or home. It enjoys the company of children as long as the children respect the Scottie, especially after the dog leaves "puppyhood". A sensitive dog that needs to be handled accordingly. Harsh corrections are not good for the relationship. If the owner does not set up the "chain of command" early on the Scottie will set it for the family with the Scottie in the driver's seat. A very playful companion who enjoys "sporty" games and walks. Does not demand a great deal of exercise, but needs more than it would get if left indoors. Can be a barker. Its coat should be brushed on, at least, a weekly basis.

We STRONGLY recommend that you get your dog from a respectable breeder or rescue organization. Pet store puppies may get their dogs from Puppy Mills that normally breed only for profit, not quality or concern for the puppy or its eventual owner.

Do not assume that PGAA has qualified all of the breeders or rescues on this site.
