Your children’s early education with animals

Many people dislike the idea of their children being surrounded by animals. They’re afraid, which is understandable. You don’t want your child to get hurt. But is there a reasonable alarm for friendly animals? I mean, you surely won’t bring home an untrained wild horse or bloodthirsty dog. But bringing some kinds of animals, or all of them, but trained not to hurt children, won’t bring anything but good to your kids. And it’s scientifically proven that animals make a considerable influence on the education of your children. That’s what some kindergarten’s realised and included trained animals in their facilities. And, to mention at the beginning, the education of your children starts from the day they’re born!

Improve the education of your children by getting a pet

Recommendations for raising kids around pets

Example of pets implementation in private Magnolija kindergarten in Belgrade, Serbia

As we said, kids are learning from pets and learning together with the pets. Therefore, it’s very recommendable to get the recently born animal for your young kid. That way, they’ll learn together how to become clever and adroit discovering the world, being that they’ll meet it for the first time together. Private Belgrade kindergarten Magnolija realised that. They’re now working on the inclusion of animals into everyday activities in their nursery. And the first steps in that program are showing a terrific result. Kids just love the animals! And all they’re learning, they’re learning much faster, and having fun with their new buddies.

This isn’t the action that’s one time only. It’s something kindergarten and schools should continue improving in years to come. If something is so good for children’s education (and the scientifical explorations are showing so), why wouldn’t all schools and kindergartens follow the example from Magnolija kindergarten in Belgrade, Serbia?

Kinds of animals adjusted to different periods of your children’s earliest education

Little babies, or the infants (0-1)

When you’re about to have the baby, and you have pets, there are some tasks you need to do. You must prepare your animals for babies to come. Train your pets, or hire a professional trainer to get them ready for babies coming to your home. Also, you need to make the place clean, and, if you haven’t arranged it before, to arrange a separate place in your home for pets. Being that little babies have common problems with different kinds of allergies due to unclean spaces. And it’s not possible to keep your pet clean all the time. Also, we recommend not getting a new pet at this early stage of your child/children education.

‘Big babies’, or toddlers (1-2)

At this stage of education, the top recommendations of pets to get for your children are those that can’t harm your children. This is the period when your children are learning about the world, so everything is new to them. Therefore, they don’t know how they should behave to various animals. Due to that, they could injure the animal and make them instinctively react and hearth them back. You don’t want that. So get a fish or a hermit crab. Those pets and your children at this age need a little independence. So you may have your children excited to answer the questions about your new pet or to make the first interactions with the animals.

Pre-school age (3-4)

This is a perfect time to have a new pet introduced into your beloved children’s life! Your kid/s are now ready to start being responsible. So you should get them a pet that needs to be nurtured. Also, that animal should still not be the dangerous one, being that your children are starting the education about being cautious and careful. Getting a hamster, for example, is a good solution. Your children need to feed them, to take them out of the cage and be careful not to loose them, or let them escape your yard. Therefore, the great way to educate them in terms of being careful about something they like or something important for them.

Animals for your children in last years before and after they start attending school

Children’s education with animals after the year of 5 may include almost all sorts of pets. Being that the experts advise you not to include potentially dangerous animals such as dogs before this age. So here we shall give you the examples of various animals that you may get to increase the level of your children’s commitment to education:

Cats for improvement in children’s learning habits

The first thing to mention about your cat’s treatment is not to let them leave your home. That way you prevent their injuries and harm in contact with other animals. Besides that, you save them from getting some disease into your home. Also, clear the cat’s box all the time, and wear gloves while doing it. After handing your cat, make sure you wash your hands EVERY SINGLE TIME!

Talking about the cats’ effect on your children’s education, they improve the attention and help your children learn to read. In such an experiment students showed sustained focus and learned much faster, and with much more interest in what was the subject.

When trying to teach your children to build a self-esteem and learn how to protect themselves, get a dog!

Having a dog around, you need to educate your children how to behave not to get hurt by acting to a dog in a way that a dog can instinctively harm them. Also, you want to get a dog that is safe for your children. So, you should only consider getting an older dog if it was around kids before. Otherwise, it’s much smarter to get a puppy. That way, your children and the puppy will grow and develop at the same time. So your children will have someone making mistakes and therefore not losing temper when making their own mistakes.

Besides, having a dog as a pet helps in your children’s actual education. When reading some material to a dog, a dog doesn’t interrupt them. So they’re building confidence and self-esteem. Hence, having a dog around helps your children feeling better about getting educated, and doing it more comfortably and with much more energy.

If considering to get some other animal, besides cats, dogs, and unharmful animals such as the hamster or guinea pig, here’s what you should know:

If you plan on getting a reptile for your children’s pet, know that they often carry salmonella. And salmonella’s very difficult to get rid of. So in case, you do get, for example, a turtle, lizard or a snake, make sure you carefully wash your hands after playing with them or cleaning their terrariums. Also, educate your children how to do that. Having these kinds of animals doesn’t help much in your children’s formal education, but it does help them taking care of being clean and protecting themselves from getting a disease.

Another thing to mention is that, while your children are young, it’s recommended not to get an animal that could seriously harm them or that need special kinds of care. So don’t get an exotic animal such as a monkey or tarantula. Also, getting a wild animal is very dangerous and strictly suggested not to be done!
