Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen

Scent Hound

Petit Basset Griffon Vendeens from the PBGV-L Rescue

The charming Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen wants the attention of its owner, and isn’t shy in letting you know.  They are good with children and canine members of the family, but may not get along with non-canine pets unless they were socialized with these pets as puppies.  Strong-willed and smart, they need to be challenged with exercise and games.  Plenty of toys.  With proper exercise they can make good apartment dogs if the owner is aware that they will play hard inside and out.  When outside keep on leash or securely confined as they will jump or tunnel their way to freedom.  Comb or brush weekly.

We STRONGLY recommend that you get your dog from a respectable breeder or rescue organization.  Pet store puppies may get their dogs from Puppy Mills that normally breed only for profit, not quality or concern for the puppy or its eventual owner.
If you would like help locating a breeder or rescue agency near you please E-Mail PGAA (, and let us know your city/state and the type of dog you are looking for.  Do not assume that PGAA has qualified all of the breeders or rescues on this site.  Do your own check of each breeder or rescue — be sure that you are comfortable with the organization before you buy, adopt or turn-over a dog.
